TAKE ACTION: SHE CAN, SHE WILL TOOLKIT

 WHY DO WE NEED YOU?

Women make up 50 percent of the U.S. population and 40 percent of the workforce. Women account for 5.8 percent of executives at S&P 500 companies, 20 percent of the seats in congress, and only 5 governor seats. Women are earning more degrees than men, yet the number of leadership positions held does not reflect this.

Most of the 160 student organizations and clubs on Xavier’s campus are consistently lead by females. However, the highest student-held position of student body president and SGA as an organization are dominated by males.

Since 1999, 40 males and 9 females have run for student body president. There have been just 6 female student body presidents since 1999. Men outnumber women candidates two to one (or more) in most elections. In the most recent election in 2017, there were ZERO female presidential candidates.

 WHY SHOULD YOU RUN?

When women leaders have a seat at the table, they change agendas and our idea of what it means to be a leader. When women are equally represented in leadership positions, conversations change, and results are impacted. We must begin to utilize the untapped talent of women on campus and beyond.
