She Can, She Will was conceived by two seniors as part of a leadership capstone opportunity through Xavier University’s Office of Student Involvement called Pedro Arrupe Leaders.
The project was inspired by Dr. Leah Busam Klenowski's dissertation entitled, "Understanding female candidate emergence for the role of student government president," which explored how women make the decision whether or not to run for student body president at Xavier. Based on her findings from the interviews of 13 women who were likely candidates, Dr. Klenowski identified several themes that female students identified as barriers or detractions for running for the highest student-elected position on campus.
She Can, She Will aims to address these barriers by providing a network of peers for mentorship and support, developing an accessible toolkit that creates a less daunting campaign process, and ultimately, encouraging women to aim for the highest levels of leadership through a personalized nomination process.
We are Xavier women. We made this for other Xavier women. We are aspiring CEOs, doctors, nurses, politicians, lawyers, actresses and more. We have grown up in a society that tells us what we should be and can be. We made this so that women at Xavier are given every opportunity, every piece of support and every bit of resources needed to succeed. So that Xavier women can be who they want to be.
